Meet your acupuncturist: Demetra Markis, L.Ac.

Welcome! For over 15 years, I’ve been practicing community acupuncture—a model that feels like home to me because it aligns so perfectly with my mission: to offer safe, powerful, and effective treatments to as many people as possible in a peaceful, healing space. I’m grateful every day for the chance to make a difference, one needle at a time.

My path here began at age 16, when my father died after struggling for years with a rare illness. While modern medicine did what it could, it left my family with little support for the fear and grief we carried as his health faded. That experience lit a fire in me—to become someone who could ease the pain and isolation others might feel in their own health struggles. It’s what drives me still.

With over 30,000 treatments given in my career to date, I’ve honed a gentle needling technique and designed effective treatments that really work—whether it’s calming allergies, soothing tight shoulders, supporting chemo recovery, or nurturing the journey to parenthood.

But beyond the needles, it’s the relationships that matter most. Getting to know you through life’s seasons, listening deeply, and blending clinical skill with a mindful presence—that’s the heart of my practice. I’m here to walk with you toward health, balance, and peace.

When I’m not at the clinic, I’m on a homestead in the coastal hills of Sonoma County, where I run a community grazing program with my flock of Katahdin sheep for wildfire safety, get woken up at 4m by dueling roosters, and garden to my heart’s content.
